Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Reed Online are looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join their expanding team based in Holborn, London.

Overview

As a Senior Machine Learning Engineer you will be an expert in machine learning and the operation of machine learning models at scale.  You will be up to date with the latest Data Science, Machine Learning and DevOps practices.

You will contribute to an active data science team helping people find a job they’ll love. You’ll work with Data Science, Data Engineering and DevOps experts to augment your own skills in these areas.

The role is suitable for a talented engineer with up to date experience putting machine learning models into production and supporting a modern Data Science team. 

Key Responsibilities

The Machine Learning Engineer will:

  • Take theoretical data science models and transform them into production ready models that can scale to perform as required by our online products
  • Deploy models across environments
  • Troubleshoot issues with models running in production
  • Ensure that data can be fed into model training frameworks (as required by Data Scientists during model development, as needed to retain a models performance in production)
  • Perform ongoing extension and maintenance (in collaboration with Data Engineers) of machine learning pipelines

The Machine Learning Engineer will work with Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Product Owners, DevOps and Development Teams to build models that:

  • Meet the expectations of Product Owners
  • Are useable by Development Teams
  • Perform as needed in production

Skills and Experience

  • A strong software engineering background, covering operational visibility of software artifacts
  • Understanding of software development methodologies in a distributed data environment
  • Experience with and understanding of a variety of machine learning techniques
  • Ability to assess machine learning model performance
  • Deep expertise in specific problem areas of running machine learning models, including:
    • When (and how) models need to be re-trained

    • Identifying and remediating biases

  • Experience using machine learning pipelines and pre-built components (such as Apache Airflow)
  • Competent in programming languages such as C#, Python and R
  • Scripting in Powershell and Bash
  • Familiarity with building Docker images
  • Understanding of deployment into managed Kubernetes clusters
  • Competence working with “Infrastructure as Code” tools (such as Terraform)
  • Exposure to production observability techniques
  • Strong analytical skills
