Be yourself, we like it that way
Our aim is for Co-Members to feel welcomed at REED. We are proud to promote diversity among clients, candidates and Co-Members as an equal opportunities employer. A long-standing principle we hold is that ‘no one is unemployable’ and we stand by this through supporting people to find work as a vital public service. It is REED’s policy to support people who hold Protected Characteristics (under the Equality Act 2010) both internally and externally through supporting recruitment practices based solely upon merit.
REED is committed to creating an inclusive and diverse workforce by recognising and understanding each individual’s unique differences and celebrating these within the business. Valuing diversity allows us to create a workplace where Co-Members can thrive, and be the best they can be each day.
Our commitment to Inclusion & Diversity
Love Mondays, Love Inclusion
Here at REED, we prioritise inclusion and are passionate about individuals feeling welcome.
In 2019, we are launching our first Inclusion Strategy to align our commitment business vision to our inclusion aim.
We already encourage inclusivity through learning at REED. In support of this our Co-Members are invited to complete an Unconscious Bias e-learning module, which is designed to help them to recognise & combat any unconscious bias in the workplace. We have a variety of additional e-learning modules associated with wellbeing, inclusion and mindfulness.
Attracting a more diverse candidate pool
We are proud to have an inclusive recruitment process with equal opportunities available for all at REED. With a blended selection approach including psychometric testing and telephone interviews, we aim to reduce bias through a skills based recruitment process. We also have an inclusive recruitment policy, to ensure accountability of our recruiting line managers.
At REED, we have a long history of supporting the Armed Forces with our Ex-Military Careers Scheme. In particular, we are committed to helping Ex-Forces personnel reintegrate into successful civilian careers whilst supporting Reservist within the business.
REED are committed to developing Early Talent across the business, with apprenticeships, internships, placement years and a graduate scheme available.
REED offers high quality training in the form of an Apprenticeship Programme to allow you to make the move from any background into a new role. Not only will you earn a competitive salary and bonuses, you will study towards two industry recognised qualifications in a company that prides itself on the way it develops its people. We offer the Level 2 Recruitment Resourcer and the Level 3 Recruitment Consultant Apprenticeship as part of your career development plan with REED.
We grow top talent internally year on year. We're dedicated to democratising access to opportunity and making sure everyone has the chance to fulfil their potential, whatever their background.
Awards, Partnerships & Recognition
REED are proud to have achieved Mindful Employer and Disability Confident Employer status for over 3 years. We have pledged as Stonewall Diversity Champions for the last two years and we proudly released our first Transitioning at Work policy in 2018. We use our accreditations to provide resources and support to our Co-Members.
In 2018 we have also pledged to the PWC TechSheCan Charter to help develop young women into Tech careers. Additionally, in 2019 we pledged to The 5% Club, which is a dynamic movement of employer-members working to create a shared prosperity across the UK by driving ‘earn and learn’ skills training opportunities.
We are passionate about developing Inclusion across REED and the wider community by helping teach the next generation, speaking out on issues and increasing knowledge of how to support minorities within the workplace.
REED have a number of Mental Health partnerships available to support our Co-Members both internally and externally. In 2018, we partnered with Able Futures, a government initiative providing free immediate support for Co-Members with suffering from Mental Health difficulties, continuing the regular support for 9 months. Additionally we now have a number of Mental Health First Aiders across the business, full trained to support and assist Co-Member struggling at work.
REED have a Wellbeing Hub on our Benefits Platform, providing Co-Members with Healthy recipes, Workout videos, Healthy living tips and Financial wellbeing. We also have a Co-Member Assistance Programme providing a 24/7 confidential helpline run by Health Assured to ensure any Co-Member has access to support at anytime.
Women in Leadership
REED is also committed to reducing its gender pay gap and to providing greater opportunity for women to progress into senior positions. Along with our Women in Leadership Mentoring Scheme, in 2018 we pledged to the Governments ‘Working Forward’ campaign and Tommy’s ‘Pregnancy at Work’ charity to support new parents and pregnant women in the workplace. These initiatives allow Co-Members to:
- Join a community, sharing tips, advice and knowledge to make experiences better for pregnant women and new parents
- Access to the ‘Pregnancy at Work Hotline, with a 24/7 specialist advice from Midwives, to support pregnant women, their partners, family members, colleagues and friends
- Utilise ‘Guides for Managers’, ensure they are asking the right questions and support the transition both in pregnancy and back to work, for new parents
James Reed made three pledges on International Women’s Day 2018 to help support women in the workplace at REED:
- I pledge to introduce talks, seminars and webinars once a quarter, which will be run by successful women, to encourage and inspire the women in the business.
- I pledge to grow and sustain a female mentoring system to provide the women who work at REED with a system of support and advice.
- I pledge that REED will seek to have women make up 50% of its senior leadership team over the next 3-5 years. They will be there because they are good at their jobs.
Supporting diversity is something that REED is passionate about, and greatly committed to. We aim to do this by ensuring that everyone we engage with is fully represented and supported.
We’re on a Journey....
Significant change takes time. We are proud of our accomplishments, but we still have a way to go.
As we strive to do better, REED will remain fair, open and honest with Inclusion.
